CONSERVATION HIGHLIGHT: Inspired in Alaska

How Our Partners in Alaska Inspire Us
In Alaska, we found a wilderness both pristine and vibrant. With The Boat Company and their founders, the McIntosh family, we found a partnership based on a shared ethos of conservation and care. As two families dedicating ourselves to sharing our love for the places we visit since the 1970s and 1980s, we have watched the landscapes change with time and we know that the future is unpredictable. As we have grown and adapted, our partners continue to inspire us—deepening our investment in each other and the environments in our care.
History & Conservation
Found in the wilderness of southeastern Alaska, the Tongass National Forest is this earth’s last substantially intact, temperate rainforest. The McIntosh family saw the need to protect this natural wonder and, through founding the Boat Company, combined travel and conservation to keep the wilderness pristine. Throughout their history, they have continually advocated for the preservation of Southeast Alaska.
Keeping it in the Family
As a company with three generations actively working in the business, we know what it means to uphold a history. Inspired by the work of his father, Michael, Hunter McIntosh is carrying on the family legacy of environmental education, philanthropy, and conservation that protects our natural resources for future generations.
Above All, Care
It can be easy to misconstrue travel as pure consumption, and some travel is like that—taking without giving back. However, we work with people who share our conviction that seeing the beauty and diversity of the world helps us protect it. To know something is to love it, and to love it requires care.
The Boat Company prioritizes sustainable practices and education above all else—while providing one of the best adventures in all of Alaska.
“We cruise the Tongass with the intent of introducing people, in an intimate way, to one of the world’s greatest places, in the hopes that they too would feel that the area was worth conserving for the generations to come.”

The Wild North
This yacht tour of southeastern Alaska brings you as close as you can get to the marine animals of the Northern Pacific coast. Humpback whales bubble-net feed and pods of orcas play in the waters of the wild north. A hike through the spruce forests of Sitka is the perfect way to breathe crisp Alaskan air, and a sea kayak is an ideal vessel to explore the many inlets and bays. A day in Alaska means fly fishing and spin casting in picturesque streams, trolling for salmon and jigging for halibut, glaciers calving in the distance, bald eagles soaring overhead, and the best sunsets in the world. At the end of the day, dinner is salmon sashimi from the day’s catch and Dungeness Crab fresh from the Ocean.
