Posada Amazonas
Located on the edge of the Tambopata Nature Reserve, Posada Amazonica can be reached from Puerto Maldonado airport by a one-hour drive, followed by a one-hour boat ride along the Tambopata River.
This rustic lodge features 30 rooms, a comfortable lounge, dining room, and bar. It also has a spectacular 42-meter canopy tower for a panoramic view of the surrounding jungle and miles of jungle trails. Citizen science projects include helping identify new species and learning about jungle ecology.

Refugio Amazonas
Located a little further upstream and a little deeper into the Tambopata Nature Reserve, Refugio Amazonas features 32 rooms set deep in the jungle, where you can wake to the call of howler monkeys. A canopy tower provides a panoramic view of the surrounding jungle, and guests can enjoy jungle walks and a visit to a nearby parrot lick and oxbow lake in search of Giant River Otters.
The research conducted at Refugio Amazonas is centered on the health of the forest canopy. Lectures include the science and methodology of monitoring canopy health, and guests can participate by logging on to a dedicated website and helping analyze aerial photos.

Tambopata Research Center
Located furthest within the Tambopata Nature Reserve, adjacent to Bahuaja Sonene National Park, lies the Tambopata Research Center, making it one of the most remote Amazon lodges in South America. From Puerto Maldonado, it’s a one-hour drive, followed by a two-hour boat ride deep into the heart of the reserve.
Tambopata Research Center features 28 rooms and suites, an in-room spa service, and a comfortable lounge, restaurant, and bar. A canopy tower provides a panoramic view of the jungle, while walking trails and boat trips along the river provide ample opportunities to observe Capibara, Giant River Otters, and the specific focus of research at this lodge—the Amazon Macaws.
