Peru Travel | Southern Peru Explorer | Overview

Introduction

The Inca world, past and present. Cuzco, the Urubamba Valley and Machu Picchu are our focus. We start with the incredible museum collections in Lima, then head to the Andes into the heart of the Inca empire. We explore Cuzco, Sacsayhuaman, San Salvador, Pisac ruins and town, Chincheros market, Moray, and Ollantaytambo village and fortress and a 3-day / 2-night stay at Machu Picchu.

Three days at Machu Picchu allow for a guided tour of the main ruins, hikes to Huayna Picchu, Machu Picchu Mountain, Temple of the Moon, Sun Gate, the Inca bridge and more, plus private exploration to remote corners of the ruins at your own pace.

Continuing to Lake Titicaca, two days are spent exploring the lake and discovering the unique culture of the Uros Indians, who inhabit floating reed islands. From there, travel to Colca Canyon, whose depth exceeds that of the Grand Canyon and have a chance to spot the majestic South American condor.

A visit to the spectacular colonial city of Arequipa rounds out this discovery of Southern Peru.

Lake Titicaca: highest navigable lake in the world.
