Peru Botanical Tour | Wild Orchids of Machu Picchu | Overview
Peru is home to over 3,000 known species of orchids and it is estimated this may represent only 50% of those yet to be discovered. Many of these species can be found in the Andean high jungles surrounding Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley.
Leading this tour is Roger Valencia Espinoza, renowned professor at the Graduate School of Tourism, lecturer and orchid specialist. Roger collects orchids for the Vargas Herbarium of the National University of Cusco.
An avid orchid enthusiast, Roger will be leading guests through the stunning side canyons of Urubamba and Ollantaytambo, through the lush Andean high jungle around Santa Teresa, and on the grounds of Machu Picchu, the iconic ruins of the Incan Empire.
Roger's knowledge of the region, its natural and cultural history is encyclopedic. Guests will have the opportunity to not only search for and photograph rare orchid species, but also discover the rich cultural history of the region.
